The sequestration of expert witnesses falls under Wisconsin’s Rules of Evidence, § 906.15. WIS. STAT. ANN. § 906.15 (West 2017). This rule requires the court to exclude a witness from the courtroom as to not hear testimony of other witnesses when requested by a party or if the court orders on its own. Id. The rule has four exceptions and expert witnesses fall under the third exception. Id. The third exception is for “a person whose presence is shown by a party to be essential to the presentation of the party’s cause.” Id. The trial court is given discretion to grant sequestration requests made by parties. Fletcher v. State, 228 N.W.2d 708 (Wis. 1975).
