How Expert Witnesses Can Improve Their Deposition Testimony

Steven Babitsky, Esq.

One of the keys to success for an expert witness is the ability to excel when testifying at their depositions.

There are many ways experts can improve their deposition testimony:

  • Read books on the subject.[1]
  • Attend training specifically dealing with delivering excellent deposition testimony.[2]
  • Learn from experience at their depositions.

Have Your Deposition Transcript Critiqued

One of the quickest and most efficient ways to dramatically improve your deposition testimony is to have your deposition transcript reviewed and critiqued in writing. An attorney experienced in litigation and depositions can provide a line-by-line critique detailing all the ways to improve your testimony, avoid mistakes you have made, and be more persuasive and convincing.

We at SEAK find that even experienced expert witnesses make easily fixed mistakes. These same mistakes will likely be repeated until called to the attention of the expert witness.

Conclusion

Expert witnesses are well-served by having one or two deposition transcripts critiqued by an experienced attorney.
